Every Great Program Has One. THE GUY. Every team has coaches, every organization has specialists, every athlete has people responsible for different pieces of their development, but the best environments, they have something more. They have The Guy. The person players seek out when something needs to get done. The coach players trust when something doesn’t feel right. The leader who can walk from the training table to the weight room, from the speed field to football practice, and understand how every piece connects. The person who doesn’t say, “That’s not my job.” He finds the answer. He gets it handled. He gets it done.

You Don’t Choose to Be The Guy. You Become The Guy. Nobody wakes up one morning and declares himself The Guy. You earn it. You become The Guy through years of showing up, solving problems, telling the truth, following through, and becoming the person athletes trust when the answer isn’t obvious. That’s how it happened for me. The work kept demanding more from me, and the athletes kept trusting me with more. One athlete. One problem. One injury. One workout. One conversation. One opportunity. One life decision. Again and again. Eventually, the same words kept coming up: “Go talk to Malcolm.” And that’s when you realize: you didn’t choose to become The Guy. The responsibility chose you.

The Guy Doesn’t Need to Know Everything. The Guy Needs to Know What to Do Next.

Being The Guy doesn’t mean pretending to be the physician, athletic trainer, physical therapist, nutritionist, sports scientist, financial professional, position coach, and strength coach simultaneously. Elite performance requires elite specialists. The Guy understands how to connect them around the athlete. Know when to lead. Know when to coach. Know when to listen. Know when to teach. Know when to challenge. Know when to bring somebody else into the conversation. Know when something isn’t right. Know who can solve it. And then follow through until it gets handled. That’s leadership. That’s Player Care. That’s being The Guy. The Standard Is Simple. Be there. Know your athletes. Tell them the truth. Make them better. Protect their future. Solve problems. Connect people. Follow through. And when something needs to get done, get it done. That’s how trust is earned. That’s how responsibility grows. That’s how, eventually, people stop asking who they should call. They already know.

GO TALK TO MALCOLM.

"Malcolm is one of the most dedicated people I've met and when it comes to helping other people he cares about helping them achieve their goals as much, if not more, than his own. I've spent hours on hours with Malcolm in the gym and he is a great motivator. At times when we would work on something I was not great at he never gave up and pushed me to become a better athlete. Malcolm is also a great teacher when it comes to the weight room. He is one of the main reasons I fell in love with the weight room and made me realized its importance when it comes to sports. Malcolm is just an all around great guy to be around who is very easy to communicate with and has a great sense of humor."
